And so that was how it all came to pass, and I began my working career in America by starting in Krugers Supermarket the following day.I was given my apron, put on the checkout counters and as well as packing the groceries I, also, had to ask each customer “ what would you like sir/madam plastic or paper ".After packing the groceries neatly and orderly into their respective type bags I then had to further assist the customers by helping them carry their bags to their awaiting vehicles outside in the parking lot, whereupon I may or may not, as the case may be, receive a small tip for my troubles.
Continued : Having finished with my first day of work in Krugers supermarket I returned to my friends apartment in a highly contemplative mood, and reflected quietly to myself on my situation, coming to the conclusion that I am 32 years of age, with a university education behind me, bilingual, as well as having bundles of on the job practical experiences, and here I am packing mother fucking groceries for a living, a job which represents my introduction to the “ American Dream ”, my introduction to the “ Land of Oppoptunity ”, my introduction to the " Land of Milk and fucking Honey " where hard work and ambition were supposedly going to bring about unheard of possibilities, wealth and happiness.I am sure that most people have heard about the theory of starting at the bottom and working your way up, but if that’s what I was going to have to do with this job, well then I think even the mentally impaired would have problems controlling themselves from not bursting out into fits of laughter, especially considering the age that I was at.However, I resolved to continue with my new found career, regardless.
